News & Events


  • April 2013 - Lauren Ellerman has been honored by the Virginia Lawyers Weekly to its annual list of Influential Women of Virginia. She was recognized by her peers for her tireless dedication as a community advocate and volunteer in Roanoke and the New River Valley. 
  • March 2013 - For the eighth consecutive year, Dan Frith has been named a "Super Lawyer - Medical Malpractice" by Super Lawyers Magazine. 
  • February 2013 - Later this year, we will co-host the VTLA Annual Convention "Law Office Management Interchange" in Williamsburg, Virginia. Rob Dean will join a panel of attorneys from across the state to discuss the latest developments in legal technology.
  • January 2013 - One of our attorneys, Rob Dean, will be re-living his law school moot court days as a judge this weekend at the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Mock Trial Competition. The competition will be hosted at the John Marshall Courthouse in Richmond, Virginia.
  • December 2012 - Lauren Ellerman was featured in Virgnia Lawyers Weekly in an article highlighting Virginia restaurants operated by attorneys around the state. Her restaurant, The River and Rail, recently won an award for historic preservation. Congrats, Lauren!
  • October 2012 - Next month, Rob Dean will be a speaker at the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association annual meeting for paralegals. The program, "Paralegals: Providing the Foundation for Trial Success," will discuss legal technology for law firms.
  • September 2012 - This month, Dan Frith was honored to be selected to "Best Lawyers in America" (2012-2013) for his work serving individuals and their families in complex medical and business cases. Click here for more information.
  • August 2012 - Beginning this fall, Rob Dean will host a series of seminars for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association teaching attorneys how to use the iPad in litigation. The program, "iPad for Trial Lawyers: How to Prepare for Trial and Make Your Case," is based on his success in a recent federal trial that effectively utilized presentation technology to highlight exhibits for the court.
  • June 2012 - Lauren Ellerman celebrates the grand opening of her new restraurant, The River and Rail, a southern Bistro in South Roanoke that specializes in seasonal products from local providers. Lauren and her husband Whit teamed up with friends Lee and Kari Atwood to share their love of delicious, local food, and the restaurant opened to rave reviews.
  • May 2012 - The firm began publishing an audio podcast series (3-5 minutes each) on its website, Virginia Non-Compete Law Blogwith the latest strategies for Virginia employees on negotiating and challenging restrictive covenants in employment agreements. Each podcast is free and available for download each week on the iPod or iPhone, or online. 
  • April 2012 - Lauren Ellerman is the featured speaker at How to Beat Your Virginia Non-Compete, an online CLE providing practical advice to Virginia employees in challenging complex employment contracts, including non-compete and non-solicitation agreements.  
  • March 2012 - Rob Dean hosts online webinar on using the latest developments in legal technology and cloud computing, "Getting Started with the iPad: Tips for Attorneys." 
  • February 2012 - Lauren Ellerman speaks to the Virginia General Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee at the request of Delegate Patrick Hope (D-Arlington) in support of HB 1187 regarding non-compete agreements.  
  • January 2012 - Dan Frith named to Best Lawyers in America - Medical Malpractice (2012), the sixth straight year he has received this award. 
     
  • October 2011 - Our guide to choosing long-term care for a family member, A Consumer's Guide to Long-Term Care in Virginia, is now available online as an e-book. 

  • October 2011 - Our guide to non-compete agreements for Virginia employees , How to Beat Your Non-Compete in Virginia, is now available online as an e-book. 

  • September 2011 - Frith & Ellerman Law Firm, P.C., nominated for U.S. News Best Lawyers and Law Firm Best Law Firms in America (2011).

  • August 2011 - Dan Frith recognized as a top medical malpractice attorney by Super Lawyers Magazine (2011), the seventh straight year he has been chosen by his peers.

  • July 2011 - Lauren Ellerman named as a "Rising Star - Business Litigation" by Super Lawyers Magazine (2011) for the second straight year.

  • May 2011 - Lauren Ellerman named "Young Lawyer of the Year" by the  Roanoke Bar Association at its annual celebration on May 2, 2011, for her service to the legal profession and community.


  • February 2011 - Frith & Ellerman publish A Consumer's Guide to Long Term-Care Choices in Virginia to help Virginia families select the best long-term health care for a loved one.

  • February 2011 -  Frith & Ellerman publish the second edition of its book, How to Beat Your Virginia Non-Compete.

  • January 2011 - Frith & Ellerman featured in Virginia Lawyer's Weekly for having one of the largest verdicts in Virginia.

  • October 2010 -Dan Frith elected president of the Virginia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) at its annual meeting in Richmond, Virginia. The mission of ABOTA, founded in 1958, is to foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of trial practice in order that individual litigants may receive more effective representation and the general public be benefited by more efficient administration of justice. ABOTA is comprised of civil lawyers representing both plaintiffs and defendants, as well as attorneys practicing criminal law and trial judges.

  • July 2010 - Frith Law Firm changes name to Frith & Ellerman Law Firm, P.C.

  • July 2010 -  Dan Frith is named by his peers as a SuperLawyer for 6th year in a row in Medical Malpractice

  • July 2010 -  Lauren Ellerman named as a "Rising Star - Business Litigation" by Super Lawyers Magazine (2010).  

  • May 2010 -  Lauren Ellerman is a featured speaker at the Tort Lawyer Guidebook Seminar in Roanoke, Virginia. 

  • January 2010 - Mary Ann Spencer joins our firm as office manager.

  • November 2009 - Dan Frith named "Best Malpractice Lawyer" by The Roanoker Magazine.  

  • September 2009 - Dan Frith  named to Best Lawyers in America - Medical Malpractice (2009), the fourth straight year he has received this award.

  • February 2009 - Dan Frith speaks to The Roanoke Times about the Centers for Medicare nad Medicaid Five-Star Rating System for nursing homes and skilled care facilities.

  • November 2008 - Dan Frith and Lauren Ellerman join Dr. Gary Oberlender, M.D., to speak throughout Virginia in seminars on choosing long-term care.
