We all rely upon “word of mouth” in locating a good building contractor, dentist, plumber, painter, doctor, or lawyer.  What about finding a good hospital?

If word of mouth from patients who were treated in that hospital is considered, several Virginia hospitals would fare poorly.  Virginia Business magazine’s January issue contains an article on this very topic – patient satisfaction with his/her hospital.  Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Lewis Gale Hospital – Alleghany in Covington, and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County in Martinsville, Virginia get very low scores for patient satisfaction, some of the lowest scores in the entire state of Virginia.

Only 48 to 63 percent of patients from these hospitals would “definitely” recommend the hospital to others.  The statewide average is 70 percent and the national average is 72 percent.  Not impressive numbers for these hospitals.  Read the full article here.

Would you chose a hospital where less than half of the patients who received care at that hospital would recommend to others getting treatment at the same hospital?  I would not.

Have you received medical care in any of the following Virginia hospitals and, if so, would you recommend the hospital to a family member or best friend?

Alleghany Regional Hospital, Bath Community Hospital, Bedford Memorial Hospital, Buchanan General HospitalCarilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial HospitalCarilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Clinch Valley Medical Center, Dickenson Community Hospital, Danville Regional Medical Center, Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Lonesome Pine Hospital,  Martinsville Memorial Hospital, Montgomery Regional Hospital, Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton Community Hospital,  Pulaski Community Hospital, Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Russell County Medical Center, Smyth County Community HospitalTazewell Community Hospital, Twin County Regional Healthcare, Wellmont Johnston Memorial Hospital, Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, or Wythe County Community Hospital
