PLEASE STOP USING YOUR WORK COMPUTER FOR PERSONAL STUFF 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Now, I know you think I am being an old hag. But seriously.

Stop using your work computer for the following searches:

Google – “How to leave my company and not breach my non-compete”
Google – “How to poach clients”
Google – “Is it illegal to poach clients”
Google – “Virginia law on non-competes”
Google – “Do I have to tell my new boss about my old non-compete?”

If I know you are using these search terms (and I do – because you end up on my blog and I can see your IP address) – then your boss could know you are using the same search terms.

And your boss may not want to keep you employed once the writing is on the wall so to speak.

So please use your head, and save these personal searches for your home computer.

Not your work laptop, cell phone, Blackberry etc.
And don’t email from your gmail / yahoo etc. on these devices.

When they find out and fire you, they will read all your personal stuff to build a case that you were planning on leaving and stealing clients all along.

Take the advice of an old hag to heart – and stop using your work computer for personal stuff! And when you read this blog after the fact, call me – I will be happy to help!
