UGH. WHAT TO DO WHEN LIFE / LAW ISN’T FAIR 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Guess what readers?

Life isn’t fair.

Sometimes, the justice system does not bring about justice. These are harsh truths we must all accept as adults.

Do you think it fair that someone can file a lawsuit, accuse you of all of these business torts, not be able to prove them and you still have to pay an attorney to defend it?

What about having to leave the only job you have because it violates a poorly written contract you had with an old-employer. An employer who either made your life miserable, or fired you. Is that fair?

Is it fair to spend years building up a customer list, take that list to a new company, get fired, and you can’t call those people anymore?

Nope.
These are not examples of fairness.
But, they are examples of what happens in Virginia Non-Compete cases.

And most often, these lawsuits are not driven by the law, or fairness, or even justice. They are driven by hurt feelings and anger. People sue because they are mad. Angry. And they want to make you mad too.

So, when you call our office about your employment situation, we will all agree life isn’t fair. And then we will discuss whether Virginia law is fair and evaluate your case.
