I’ll admit it… I HATE going to the dentist, or any other health care provider who wants to touch my teeth or poke some metal instrument at my gums.

I can trace my disgust of dental care to my 7 years of braces, jaw widener and other torture methods used on my teeth in the mid 1990’s.

Even now, I have to mentally prepare myself for a cleaning – hoping and praying my gums and nerves will be unscathed by the hygienist.

Sadly, many people have to deal with far worse anxiety and problems associated with dental care then my years of braces. Orthodontists, dentists and oral surgeons can cause harm to their patients, just like surgeons, nurses and doctors can.

In Virginia, dental malpractice cases have the same standard of medical malpractice cases: (1) Was the health care provider negligent (ie – did his or her care fall below the standard of care); (2) Did that negligence cause you substantial pain, harm and economic loss?

As a child, if you receive negligent care, you may have a lifetime of problems. As an adult, you may be required to get implants, dentures, face bone loss, jaw deterioration etc.

Our teeth are hard to replace, and expensive for that matter. Without insurance, how will you afford the extra care now required because of a mistake?

If you believe you have suffered because of dental negligence, call our office. We will evaluate your case and let you know if it is worth pursuing.

Ick. Just thinking about dental malpractice makes my face hurt, and no, that’s not my smiling face, thank goodness.
