People don’t believe me when I tell them that elderly patients are often the victims of abuse, purposeful abuse, at the hands of their caregivers.

I have personally spoken to families who know of sexual assault and/or physical assaults perpetrated against their loved ones in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

In the last ten days alone two families have called me to complain of hitting and purposefully bruising in Virginia nursing homes. A convicted felon was sent to my Mother’s house to be her home health nurse – the background check was only done in one state.

And most people don’t believe me.

So listen to this — and you don’t have to believe me. You can hear it from a neutral third party who determined a Dementia patient had been the victim of abuse at his California nursing facility.

Wake up folks.

Until our prosecutors are willing to press charges on these people, and or facilities do more to check unto the the temperaments of their employees, it will continue.

Abuse should never be tolerated, especially against our most frail and fragile.
