NURSING HOME CHAINS 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

When you think of a “chain” restaurant versus a locally owned mom and pop restaurant, what comes to mind?

  • Supporting a local business owner rather than a large, out of state company?
  • More attention to service, customers etc at the locally owned place?
  • Food prepared locally rather than arriving on a frozen truck already made?

What about chain medical providers. Do you think a company based in California with 300 shareholders will provide the same care as a facility owned/ run by local doctors? Will you get the same “customer” service (ie – medical attention)?

What about when you need something, like records…. Do you have to call a stranger in Florida to explain why you want your records?

There is something to be said for locally owned when it comes to Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes. If you cannot go Non-profit, then go with a facility that is owned by Virginians, or someone close to local.

When you have a concern or complaint, it is easier to call someone in your community, then it is to call someone 12 states away.
