VIRGINIA NURSING HOME ELOPEMENT
We were discussing the parable of the Good Samaritan the other day and a friend told me the following actual story that had happened to her the week before:
She was literally driving around our City, Roanoke, and saw a woman laying on the side of a major roadway. She had clearly fallen.
Our friend exited the highway, and came back to find that another motorist had stopped and helped the elderly woman.
Turns out she lived at a nearby assisted living or nursing home – and had made her way down to the road and was going on a walk.
This is terrifying.
What if she had been hit by a car?
What if she had fallen into traffic?
What if no one had stopped and she had suffered an injury in the fall?
What if she had been missing for hours?
If your loved one is in any kind of long term care facility (Continuing Care, Assisted Living or Nursing Home) and they are wandering, trying to leave, etc., you need to be very involved with the facility to prevent elopement.
There are ways and tools you can use to make sure this NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN.
