Medical Malpractice

Danville and Martinsville Deserve Better Healthcare

The good people in Danville and Martinsville Virginia have a problem.  They don’t have access to good medical care.  They don’t have good hospitals.

Sovah Health (owned by Lifepoint Health based in Tennessee) purchased Danville Regional Medical Center and Martinsville Memorial Hospital several years ago and my firm has been contacted by many patients who complained of the poor care they received as patients at Sovah’s two hospitals.

Don’t trust a lawyer who handles medical malpractice cases on behalf of injured patients and want proof?  How about this:

1. Sovah Health-Danville has a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rating of 3 stars out of 5.  Check out the database here.

2. Sovah Health – Danville received a “C” grade from Leapfrog, a nonprofit group that collects, analyzes and publishes data on safety and quality. Do you want to place your health or life in the hands of a “C” grade hospital?

3. Sovah Health – Danville has a Google-rating measure of 1.8 stars out of 5, based on 192 reviews.  This was very poor score was reported by Sovah Health-Danville’s Chief Operating Officer, John Kent, in a recent update on the hospital given to the Danville City Council.

If this is not enough, the hospital recently reached a settlement (paying $4.36 million) with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve a matter arising from the theft of controlled substances by two former employees.  The report indicates that two Sovah Health Danville employees (a pharmacy technician and a registered nurse) stole pain and other medications intended for patients.  This happened between 2017 and 2019 and must have impacted hundreds of patients.  The U.S. government claimed Sovah Health “failed to provide effective controls and procedures to guard against the diversion of controlled substances, filled orders for controlled substances without a system in place to disclose suspicious orders of controlled substances, and failed to maintain readily retrievable records of controlled substances.”

The fine people of Danville and Martinsville deserve better…much better!
