LAWSUIT OVER NURSING HOME STAFFING

LAWSUIT OVER NURSING HOME STAFFING 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Our colleagues in California have filed a class action lawsuit against 22 nursing homes alleging the facilities failed to meet staffing requirements.

We will keep an eye out as they try to hold companies accountable.

We do not deny that most of the employees work very hard while on duty, but simply stated, there needs to be more staff!

The California suit is based on state staffing requirements.

Guess what the staffing requirements are in VA?

There are none.

You have to have 1 RN on duty 24 hours a day for a Nursing Home, but there is no requirement as to how many CNA’s per patient etc. The few times these bills have been placed before the General Assembly, they have lost.

Doesn’t it seem odd to you that legally a nursing home could have 187 beds, and 1 RN on hand to care for these persons?
