This is sad news…almost unbelievable news! NHC Healthcare – Bristol, a nursing home located in Bristol, Virginia is being sued for allowing an employee to sexually abuse (repeatedly over many years) a 93 year old resident.

Nursing aides say every time someone steps into the frail, elderly woman’s room, she rolls into a fetal position and reaches with both hands between her legs and around her back as if to block sexual advances. Nearly three years of reacting that way and shifting hands from side to side along her inner thighs have left her flesh tissue thin, red and raw, a current National HealthCare-Bristol nursing aide said.

My question is why didn’t someone notice the resident’s reactions as a “sign” of sexual abuse? Why didn’t the light go off many years earlier?

An article by Bristol Herald Courier writer, Michael Owens, tells an unbelievable and tragic story. If you have a family member in a nursing home, this article is a must read.
