VIRGINIA NURSING HOME HAS PROBLEMS 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Article in the Va Pilot this past weekend about a Williamsburg Nursing home and multiple lawsuits.

Ruxton Health of Williamsburg is facing multiple lawsuits at present and is currently being investigated by the Virginia Department of Health for alleged neglect.

This latest lawsuit alleges Ms. Lorina Wiggins died from infected pressure ulcers received and left untreated by the facility.

The first lawsuit filed against the facility in 2009 was filed after Lillian Funn died in 2008 from multiple bedsores and skin ulcers. According to the Pilot, that case settled for an undisclosed sum in April.

The other case was filed by family of a 70 year old man who suffered from a head injury after he fell from bed.

If you want to investigate a Home PRIOR to placing your loved one there – you should

1. Visit www.Medicare.gov and see how many complaints they have had;
2. Send a Freedom of Information Act request for last 2 investigations and license info to the Va. Dept. of Health (so you can learn about recent problems and whether for profit or non-profit);
3. Look in the circuit Court records – www.courts.va.state.us for recent lawsuits

Please do your homework. You don’t want to have a nursing home neglect case – I promise. You only have a case if the nursing home so permanently damaged your loved one that they cannot recover.
