Last year we had a tremendous winter in SW Virginia. By tremendous, I am referring to the snowpocalypse that set in on Western Virginia, MD, NC, etc. The Mid-Atlantic states apparently had as much snow as parts of Alaska.

We however, are not used to such a deluge of the white stuff…. which means, our local businesses weren’t ready either.

On the off chance we have a 2nd year of record breaking snow, ice, and hazardous winter weather, and you have a loved one who requires long term care (home health,  nursing home or assisted living facility), I would encourage you to make the following inquiry of the provider?

What if nurses can’t get to work?
What if you lose power or electricity?
What if your heat or hot water don’t work?

For those residents that require oxygen, daily medication, etc., these are important questions. And if you are concerned, ask now.

If enough families ask now, there may likely be well drafted plans before the winter comes, and, you have the added blessing of knowing what to do.
