I am not a financial advisor. I don’t really care if you have a Medicare supplement plan or even life insurance. I care about your health care – or lack there of.

If Virginians were planners, I would be out of a job.

Two weeks ago an attorney I know in the area called me because his Mom was being discharged from a hospital to a skilled care facility, and he basically wanted to know which facilities were the best, worst etc.

I told him to check www.medicare.gov. I also told him which facilities we sue most, and which we get the most complaints about. Yes of course that does not mean they are the worst – but that is the only info I have – based on who is calling.

My advice was to call (1) Private homes. They were all full. (2) Call non-profits. They all had waiting lists. (3) Call continuing care facilities. They also all had waiting lists. This man’s options were then – which for profit facility had a bed.

So his choices were limited… And he had only a few hours to plan.

Now what if this attorney had attented our seminar last year about long term care facilities, he would have heard me preach about planning.

What if he had read the article on my website about HOW TO SELECT A VIRGINIA NURSING HOME -, he may have had more options.

Virginians, put me out of a job. Stop being customers and patrons to BAD nursing homes. If you plan, and make educated choices, only the ones that put patients first will survive.
