We have shared our view of this issue before but non-profit nursing homes routinely provide the best care. Don’t believe two attorneys who spend a great deal of time representing residents and their families in lawsuits against nursing homes? Well, would you believe the British Medical Journal?
The British Medical Journal (BMJ) is Britian’s version of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). A study recently published in the BMJ
concluded, based on 82 studies of nursing homes mostly in the U.S. and
Canada, that non-profit nursing homes in general delivered a higher
quality of care than for-profit facilities. Why? Non-profit facilities typically had higher staffing levels and a lower incidence of pressure sores.
My Take: All things being equal….chose a non-profit nursing home over a for- profit nursing home every time.
