ADVICE ON VIRGINIA EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Sadly, many Virginians do not have savings accounts. This means they cannot hire an attorney to review employment contracts and must take their chances with new employment.

Sadly, taking your chances with a non-compete is often more expensive in the long run than having your agreement reviewed.

What do I mean?

  • Example 1 : You do not know whether or not your agreement is binding / fail to tell new company about the agreement / new company gets a cease and desist letter from old company and you are fired.
  • Example 2: You do not know your rights and restrictions / quit and start your own business / are served with a lawsuit and now must pay an attorney to defend it.
  • Example 3: You accept a job with a new company that you think is NOT in breach of your contract / new company is sued for tortuous interference of contract and you are asked to pay attorneys fees for old company and new company.

Bottom line, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Two hours of an attorney’s time now, could save you hundreds of hours of heartache, money, and your job.
