HOW A NON-COMPETE AGREEMENT CAN RUIN YOUR MORNING 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

Now, there are many things that can ruin your morning.

Spilled coffee.
Baby spit-up.
The paper not being delivered.
Over sleeping.
Having to go to work while a spouse takes the day off.

Truly, the possibility of things that can ruin your morning, are endless.

But what about when your favorite radio host/hostess can no longer work in your market area because of a non-compete. Rather than enjoy your commute with DJ Sunnycakes as you have every M-F morning for the last 7 years, now you have to listen to Betty the Love Cat and her high pitched squawk as she provides useless commentary on local news and sports.

That could ruin your morning, couldn’t it?

Well, it likely ruined DJ Sunnycakes morning too…. since she lost her job and all.

I attended HS in Tampa Florida, where for many years I listened to a radio personality named Skip Maheffey. Skip signed a non-compete, and now has had to move to Oklahoma to work. Read more about it here on the St. Pete’s Times website.

Why do I share this with you? Not because I miss Tampa, or want to make a statement about non-competes in the entertainment industry. I simply wanted to restate my position that non-compete agreements are everywhere, and they will affect everyone at some point. Can’t hire your old plumber, see your favorite doctor, or work in an industry you know and love because of a restrictive covenant, and now, in Tampa Florida, you can’t listen to good old Skip.
