This is not a new idea, but one that bares / bears repeating:
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST ON THE INTERNET.
Years ago I began preaching responsible social networking.
This requires you to think before you post, and ask yourself whether that comment, statement, addition, is something you could / would defend in a legal action.
If you are changing jobs and don’t want your old boss to know – perhaps LinkedIn is not the best place to advertise this.
If you are breaching your non-compete agreement, you may not want to make it a status update on Facebook.
If you have taken Trade Secret information, perhaps a Tweet on the topic is not a smart choice.
Been trying to compete with your employer on the side all along? That’s special, especially if you have a website that says as much.
I know you are reading this and past articles we have written, and thinking to yourself all of these other folks are dumb. You would never do any of that. You would never jeopardize your career with irresponsible social networking….
Or have you already done it?
