How Does your Hospital Stack Up? 150 150 Dan Frith

I have written blogs before about how to find a good doctor in Virginia.  Click here.

Now I want to talk about finding a good hospital in Virginia.  Of course you want a good doctor to provide you or your family with great care but what about the nursing staff and other considerations which might make a “life or death” difference?  Remember, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists often spend much more time caring for the hospital patient than the surgeon who performed a 40 minute surgical procedure.

Where to start?  Take a look at the Virginia Health Information (VHI) website. The VHI provides a lot of information on hospitals.  Here is some disturbing information from 2019 on hospitals located in Western Virginia:

1.  The lowest rated hospital in the state of Virginia for patients who would recommend the hospital to others is Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Virginia.

2.  The second lowest rated hospital in the state of Virginia for patients who would recommend the hospital to others is Sovah Health – Danville, Virginia

My Take:  Be smart…do the research…make good decisions not only about your doctor but also the hospital you select.
