Is Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Getting Good Grades for Safety and Patient Care? 150 150 Dan Frith

Everyone has an opinion on the answer to this question.  However, some opinions should carry more weight than others – take the opinions from the Leapfrog Group,  a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited in MSNBC, The New York Times, and AARP The Magazine. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a public service and gave Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital the following grades:

     1.  A below average score in 3 out of 5 categories for preventing infections.

     2.  A below average score in 6 categories (foreign objects left inside the patient, death from preventable complications, etc.) out of 7 for surgical problems.

To be fair, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital did receive above average grades in some areas like sufficient number of qualified nurses, preventing infections of the blood, and hand washing, etc.
