KEEP A COPY OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENTS 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

I wish I had a dollar for everyone who called and said “How can I make my employer give me a copy of the agreements I signed?”

My answer is usually – “you can’t.”

What I really want to say is “Don’t you have a copy?”

Virginians, lend me your ears.

KEEP A COPY OF ALL AGREEMENTS YOU SIGN, INCLUDING EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENTS.

If they ask you to sign a new one, ask for a copy of the new one.

Dan and I cannot review a contract unless you have a copy of the contract. Also, its not a good idea to ask HR for a copy randomly. They will think you are trying to leave and compete.

So please, keep a copy. You will be glad you did.
