The answer is “yes.”
The advancement of medical technology continues to address this serious, and potentially life-threatening, problem for the elderly and I wanted to share some new technology with our readers.
The “Smart Fall Prevention System” is being utilized in some Louisiana nursing homes to reduce the risk of these falls. Each resident is given an individual profile that determines their risk for falls. If they are categorized as a “fall risk,” a computer and motion sensor devices will monitor their every move in bed and alert the nursing staff if anything is abnormal.
“Over the past six months of testing, we have actually eliminated 60 percent of those incidents that would have resulted in a fall,” said Neal Rider, the nursing home’s CEO.
My Take: Nursing homes need to spend the money to reduce the deadly risks of falls…anything less is unacceptable!
