This shocking report comes by way of the Los Angeles Times.
Investigators on Sunday were investigating an unusual slaying in which an 81-year-old man was accused of fatally beating his 94-year-old roommate at a Laguna Hills, California nursing home. The attacker allegedly took a bar used to hang clothes from a closet and repeatedly struck his roommate.
A sad and disturbing report. My question is whether the attacker had demonstrated aggressive and dangerous behavior before he allegedly killed his roommate. I bet he had a track record of aggressive behavior and the nursing home staff failed to take action until it was too late.
Nursing homes are required to discharge residents if they are uncontrollable or present a danger to themselves or others. We have seen many “resident-on-resident” attacks in nursing homes located in Western Virginia…some resulting in death.
