Under Virginia law, assisted living facilities are NOT Health care providers.
They do not owe you a duty to provide medical care. Or medicine. Or call your Doctor when you need help. Or get you an appointment.
They have a duty to provide you the services stated in your contract (meals, house keeping, etc) and nothing else.
For families who live out of town and have a loved one in an assisted living facility, please be aware of this very important fact. Assisted living is NOT HEALTH CARE. If your loved one needs health care, they may need to move.
