Consumer Safety at Risk! 150 150 Lauren Ellerman

4 weeks ago – DON’T EAT THE SPINACH appearred on grocery shelves across the country. Then there was a rumor about E Coli in lettuce as well. This week – pain killers are the subject of scrutiny. A manufacturer of generic acetaminophen recalled 11 million bottles of the pain-relieving pills Thursday after discovering some were contaminated with metal fragments.

If you are reading this blog – you are probably smart enough not to take pills that have metal fragments in the bottle – but what about a legally blind elderly person who knows their medicines by the size or shape of the bottle. I remember watching my grandmother who could not see – sort her pills by bottle size…. she would not have had the ability to examine pills before she took them. Its scary when you think about it.

I blogged this week about elections and health care. Well – do you think there should be accountability for these corporations that are introducing harmful consumer goods to the market – or do we simply assume the risk by going to the store? Its an interesting issue – one I am afraid will stay in the spotlight as we are reminded time and time again, buyer beware.
