I want to share with our readers an experience I had a couple of weeks ago. I attended (and made a presentation at) the 17th annual meeting of the Virginia Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
I was blown away by the numbers of nurses, Ombudsmen, Adult Protective Service workers, Social Services workers, and just interested family members in attendance. The meeting included presentations on:
Guardianship Issues
Domestic Abuse
Stalking and Sexual Assault
The Seven Deadly Sins of Nursing Homes (my topic)
Foster Care
Older Adults and Mental Illness, and many more topics
My Recommendation: If it is important to you to assure that elderly and disabled adults in Virginia live a life free of abuse, neglect and exploitation, then join the Virginia Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and attend one of their great conferences.
