The Roanoke Times ran an article last week about the “state of the art” addition to the Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, Virginia. The article focused on the recently completed 39,000 square foot addition, which doubles the size of the current facility.
Great news but what about hiring enough nurses to provide first rate care to the residents?
Many nursing homes spend money on making the entrance and cafeteria beautiful. Why? Because it encourages the public to place their loved ones in the facility.
These facilities should “invest’ in hiring more Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Nurse Aides all of whom provide front line medical care to residents who need a lot of daily care.
My Take: Don’t be blinded by the fancy new building or addition…talk to the nursing staff and find out if they are over-worked and under-staffed.
