Ugh.
I am so sick of hospitals and nursing homes allowing residents to suffer from pressure ulcers.
Guess what folks. Most of them are preventable. If someone is being moved, if he or she receives proper nutrition, proper transfers and proper wound care – they should not suffer from any stage of pressure ulcer.
So why do we get calls every day from people who suffered from serious wounds while in a skilled or acute care facility?
Because someone didn’t do their job(s)… or, maybe, not enough someones were hired to wash, turn, feed and bathe patients who need help with activities of daily living.
Now, Medicare is refusing to pay hospitals for wound care when the hospital’s negligence caused the wound. Good lesson there. You screw up, you fix it and you don’t get paid to fix it… But what about nursing homes? How do they get away with it?
They shouldn’t. And if you have a pressure ulcer (aka bed sore) case that you would like our firm to review, call today.
